ELEMENTARY PROGRAM

For all of our youngest members, the Elementary program fosters skill development focused on the sport of sprint canoe & kayak racing. Elementary members will work together for games and activities for team building, then have specific instruction and practice based on individual skill level and interest. No experience is necessary to join the Elementary program, just an interest in the sport and a willingness to try! Elementary members will have the opportunity to use a variety of boats, including level-appropriate racing boats. The intention of the program is to build a broad base of paddling and training skills to create healthy, well-rounded future athletes, so practice will include different styles of boats as well as basic athletic skills and fitness, with the opportunity to specialize when basics have been mastered.

Program Details:
U10 - SUMMER ONLY
This part of the Elementary program prioritizes building a positive relationship with sport and teammates. Most of the time will be focused on learning fundamentals through structured and unstructured play. Specialization is discouraged, so paddlers will be involved with both kayak and canoe races, as well as activities and events outside the traditional sprint model. Regattas for this group are designed to be low-consequence opportunities for fun and learning, and as a good way to structure and focus the summer.

The U10 program is a summer-only program, kids of this age are recommended to be involved in a wide range of sports and sport activities through the year. If you are interested in being involved with us beyond the summer, talk to a coach about other program options.

Age: 9-10 (born 2009-2010)

Date: July 2-August 23 (excludes holidays)

Time: M-F 10:00am-3:00pm* (plus competitions, see regatta schedule for details)

*1 hour early drop-off and pick-up options are available; if you need further extended hours please contact us for arrangements.
